Remiges ServerSage

Remiges ServerSage is an open source observability framework which can monitor health and activity parameters for both applications and infrastructure. Keep an eye on your entire suite of applications from a single integrated dashboard.

This blog carries announcements, policy statements, etc, about ServerSage.

What is Remiges ServerSage?

Remiges ServerSage is an open source observability framework. In our projects we began to see that large enterprise business applications go into production use but are totally unprepared to capture health metrics. The application software culture seems to have neither processes nor tools for collecting a large set of health metrics as a matter of routine, and all discussions about “system monitoring” seem to point to the servers and networks teams — the “infra” team. We in Remiges realised that observing health parameters must be an integral part of any high volume enterprise business application, and we built an observability framework for this purpose.

ServerSage is an open source product, and has data collection agents which are embedded within the application code by application developers from the initial stage, not as an afterthought. ServerSage offers industrial-strength visualisation, graphing, and ad hoc reporting interfaces to allow application maintenance teams to monitor health in real time.

ServerSage also allows equally effective monitoring of infrastructure health. Therefore, CPU usage or disk I/O throughput of database servers are also monitored by the same product, thus allowing time-correlated analysis of application and infrastructure parameters on a common timeline.

ServerSage is offered under the Apache 2.0 licence. It has client libraries in Java and Go to allow embedding in application code. Its data store and server runs as an independent service, and can scale up to handle large server farms with a centralised data console.
